Mike Libby employs an adaptive methodology in his work, balancing the precision of a ship-in-a-bottle craftsman with the irreverent energy of a margin doodler. His practice explores the intersection of social issues, personal narrative, language systems, history, and the conceptually absurd and significant. Through deliberate alterations and material-driven processes, he creates physical forms and images that disrupt and piggyback the familiar, inviting new modes of visual engagement.

A 1999 graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, he has attended the Vermont Studio Center and served as an artist-in-residence at the University of Maine at Orono. His work is held in global collections and has been exhibited at major institutions including the Smithsonian Craft Show, the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Shows, and the Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center. From international venues to a 2025 Portland exhibition, and Art on the Trails the Summer of 2026, he has spanned collaborations with gallery and museum curators, designers, authors, and publishers, with work featured through Neiman Marcus and Anthropologie

An occasional speaker at schools, events, and panels, Libby currently serves as adjunct faculty at Southern Maine Community College. He also operates INSECT LAB, a project since 1999 creating wondrous display to explore science-fiction, science-fact, and storytelling. As of 2026 he is an associate member of the Boston Sculptor's Gallery
